The Flat-Out-Winner
On its 1999 Design of the Times competition entry form, Mirro
Products Co., High Point, NC states that its client, Uniroyal,
wanted to "get consumers excited about tires." The
judges apparently got excited as well and they named the Uniroyal
NailGuard Tire Demo Unit the 1999 Best Of The Times
winner. |

Interesting features
of the unit:
- A security arm that prevents the
unit from being used by children.
- A puncture counter to maintain a
count of the number of times the unit interacts with the
consumer.
- A threaded axle, which allows
the tire to rotate 360 degrees and be punctured over its
entire surface.
- Custom-made mechanical
components that are finished in black oxide or bright zinc.
- A brochure holder.
